Destination: Without being too technical, what’s happened the dysfunction addressed by this exercise is that there is a limit motion joint, a component of the hip, that has flared out in a way as to force the femur to rotate to the inside, dragging knee along with it. The knee is pointing inward instead of strat ahead. The hip lift counteracts the out-flaring of the joint.
Route: (Hold 30 seconds to 1 minute.) Lie on your back both knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Cross the right a over the left knee and press the right knee out toward the While maintaining this position, lift the left leg toward the chest (figure 33). Make sure your hips stay on the floor. Hold this position as you breathe. Check to insure that the right knee is still pressing out and the left knee is in line with the left shoulder, with your hips still on the floor. You should feel a stretch in the right hip. Reverse the directions and repeat on the other side.
